Making the switch

CastleRock has made it easy for you to switch your security monitoring service…and start saving! In fact, CastleRock provides sample letters you can send to your current monitoring company, contact information for security companies and step-by-step directions for switching your service.

CastleRock does not encourage or support any effort to breach or break a contract between you and your alarm company. However, CastleRock does encourage you to understand the terms and your rights under any contract. And, CastleRock wants you to know that you DO have the option to switch your security monitoring even if you purchased your security equipment from another company.

Step-By-Step Directions For Switching Service (Note: You may not have a security monitoring agreement.)

  1. Locate your current monitoring agreement (if you can’t locate your agreement, see "Writing Your Current Security Company" below)

  2. In your current agreement, look for:

    • Terms of Agreement – What is the expiration date of the agreement?

    • Notification For Termination – How much notice is required before the end of the agreement in order for the agreement to not automatically renew? Does the contract provide for canceling the service?

    • Penalty For Termination – If you cancel your service before the end of the contract period, is there a penalty? What is it?

    • Ownership of Equipment – Who owns the equipment? Will the alarm company remove the equipment? If the monitoring agreement does not stipulate who owns the equipment, you own it.

  3. If all of these details in the agreement indicate that you are free at this time to switch monitoring services, then Contact CastleRock and a CastleRock professional will assist you in completing the switch.

  1. Give the company a 30-day notice of your wish to cancel their service.

  2. State in the letter that you will consider the cancellation accepted without penalty if you receive no written response before the end of the 30 days.

  3. Send your letter return receipt requested so that you have proof they received your correspondence.

  4. Document all correspondence and actions you take.

  5. Ask the company to put any explanations or clarifications in writing.

  6. If the company indicates that you have a contract that requires more of you, have them send you a copy of that contract with an explanation of the requirements.
